Dawson McAllister: Saving the Millenial Generation

Comments from Naomi, 21, Irish

This book talks about the new generation of teenagers; the Millenials, their characteristics and the differences between them and previous generations and how those who work with them can reach them more effectively. One of the striking characteristics of this generation is how passionately tolerant they are. McAllister says that Millenials are so focused on not condemning any concept that they have lost a sense of purpose for their generation. Tolerance appears to be a good thing, its inclusive and non-judgemental but it comes at  the cost of truth. This passionate tolerance has contributed to the isolation of today's teenagers. Teenagers are more materialistic than before and their lack of purpose and isolation has led to increased depression, self-harm and suicide. McAlliseter argues that this generation need something to fight for and that ultimately they need a Saviour.

'God has made us so that our souls, like David's, thirst for God. We  can numb that thirst by trying to satisfy it with material things, accomplishments or people but the thirst remains'

Teenagers value experience more than propositional truth. McAllister says that one way to reach the Millenials is to share our own experiences linked with truth. This makes truth more real to them. Teenagers want something to live for. It is our job to offer them 'the greatest challenge in the world: to represent the King of Kings'.
