One of my favorite stories in the Bible is in Luke 10:38-42. It's just five short verses about two women who met Jesus - the story about Martha and Mary. Over the last year God has spoken to me a lot through these few verses. It's funny how something can be so simple and so hard at the same time. How we can get so focused on what we're doing, on what we're called to do, that we forget the one thing that is important. Just like Martha did.

I know I do that a lot. There's just so much to do. So much that needs to be done.

Am I allowed to rest? Am I allowed to just sit at the Lord's feet and listen when there are so many things still undone?

Jesus doesn't only say it's allowed, he says it's the better thing. It's the one thing needed.

He reminded me of that again this weekend. I spent some time with a friend and her little baby boy, away from the people on the streets. I felt a bit bad at first, that I missed some of the things I'm supposed to be doing here. But now, I see that it was just what I needed.

Sometimes we tend to just keep going. Maybe it's even easier when you're in ministry. It's not just for yourself, it's not just for a good cause, but it's for God. How can you take a break from that?

But that's exactly what we need. A break. We need to lie down in green pastures. We need to sit at the Lord's feet.

That's how we get the strength to keep going.

So take a break.
